http://www.howtobrew.com/ Review by Jodie Davis: I started brewing 2 1/2 years ago and bought or borrowed every book on the subject. I found this one to not only be the best organized and easily read, but also put together in such a way that the beginner could easily start at the beginning and get the required info to get going. Then, over time, I have found I keep going back and learning more and more, adding to my knowledge and skills. It is both a beginner and intermediate book. Thanks John! |

Brewing Gas Sources-
BOC Gases, 920 W. Ridge Road,
Gainesville, GA 30501 770-536-3267
CO2 tanks 20 lb. and larger
filled/exchanged. They are not the cheapest around, but when ya
gotta have CO2...
Beer Gas (N2/CO2 mix) available by
special order in both CO2 and N2 valve configurations.
Holox, 1319 Hancock Av., Gainesville, GA
30501, 770-536-1585 Fill or exchange on 20 lb. or larger tanks.
Beer gas by special order. Also stock tank valve converters to
allow use of CO2 regulator.
Peach State Fire, 626 Industrial Blvd.
SW, Gainesville, GA, 770-536-3948. Fill or exchange on all CO2 tank
sizes. The only source for smaller (5 lb) tanks.
A L Welding Supply 1590 Athens Hwy. (Rt.
129), Gainesville, GA 30501, 770-536-3364 Fill or exchange on 20
lb. and larger CO2 tanks. Good pricing. The choice of Snoop Dog
and Whistle Pig Breweries.
More on beer gas- Beer gas is a mixture of 70/30 (or so) N2/CO2
mix that is essential for a "Guinness type" stout. A beer gas
tank is normally a Nitrogen tank, which requires a special
converter that will allow you to use your existing CO2
regulator. Without a converter, you'll need to get a tank with
the CO2 (male) configuration. A CO2 tank's valve is male; the
N2's tank female. A converter runs about $10-$15, which is far
cheaper than buying a N2 regulator.
Stainless Steel Goodies (pipe, fittings,
valves, tubing)-
Industrial Pipe and Supply, 1779 MLK Jr.
Blvd., Gainesville, GA 770-536-0517 Stock all kinds of stainless
steel goodies including 3/8" and 1/2" ball valves, elbows, t's,
compression fittings, tubing, hose barbs, etc.
For Propane: BJs Warehouse in
Cumming refills your 20# cylinder while you wait for $9.99
including tax (member's rate). If you have good cylinders, you
don't have to trade them in like at Home Depot/Loews. HD/L both
charge 12.97 plus tax to trade cylinders.
For pressurized gas: SWP (Smith
Welding Products) Exit 16 of GA400 and only one block west, make
the first right then a quick left then a right into the strip
mall store. (you are only 300 yards on the west side of 400).
The address is 1479 Ventura Drive and the phone is 678 513-0502.
They swap 5# and 20# CO2 cylinders
which are usually in stock. The turn around if you want to keep
your cylinder is only 2 or 3 days. Beer Gas (75% N2/25% CO2) is
a leave and come back operation. 5# is 6.42 and 20# is 12.82
(tax included). Brian has
hooked me up and allowed me (Phil) to trade steel 5# cylinders
for aluminum free of charge if they are in stock. Obviously
someone else didn't care about their cylinder another time and
swapped it the other way. He also filled my steel CO2 with
beergas so I didn't need another regulator or an adapter.
Beware: You can't force carbonate beer with beergas.

Cleaners/Sanitizers-
Bar Keepers Friend- Powder cleaner that
contains a gentle scouring agent and oxalic acid. Great for cutting
that dull scum at the bottom of boil kettles. Removes rust and
passivates stainless. On the negative side, it takes more effort to
rinse due to the gritty scouring agent. This stuff is available
everywhere--grocery stores, hardware stores.
www.barkeepersfriend.com
Franklin Blu-Lite-
This is a liquid germicidal acid cleaner
used primarily for toilets and urinals. Yes, you heard that right.
It's also great for stainless steel, aluminum, copper, brass, etc.
The key here is that it contains 20% phosphoric acid. When alkaline
cleaners won't touch that scum on your brew kettle, this stuff
will. It will shine up copper like you won't believe. The bad part
is that Gainesville Janitorial doesn't seem to stock it any longer.
